sustainable cabin - wisconsin

Planned to be a weekend getaway, this compact building is situated at the edge of a forest overlooking a rolling meadow on a 60 acre piece of property. To satisfy both sustainability and cost concerns, the design was centered on an attempt to use as much wood from the site as possible. A forester was consulted to select trees for removal that would benefit the health of the forest. The selected tree species were then incorporated into the design - which determined which trees would be milled for timbers, paneling, flooring etc. The trees were milled on site, and the result is that almost all of the wood you see inside and out will be from the property.
